The Broken Sword

The Broken Sword

I received a prerelease e-copy of this book through NetGalley (publication date December 30, 2014) with the expectation that I will post a review on their site and others (my blog, Goodreads, Facebook, Google +, LinkedIn, Twitter, Amazon, etc.).

This book was sent to me by the publisher and the first that I have read by Poul Anderson in several years.  I will give you my opinions on this book without giving away the substance of the book. I hate it when reviewers do that and if I read the review first I tend not to read it.

The books by the author that I have read in the past have all been science fiction so this was a definite change of pace for me. The book was first published 50 years ago, but the subject content is still valid today due to the nordic fantasy theme of the book. Anderson packs a great deal into less than 300 pages keeping the reader engaged with several plot twists.

I have to admit that I enjoyed ths book less than the authors works of science fiction. While enjoyable it does not have the same “can’t put the book down” that other fantasy authors have achieved.

I recommend this book for those who enjoy fantasy, especially Nordic fantasy.
