This is a variation of the Robinson Crusoe theme and it takes place on Mars. The big difference is that there is no man Friday or volleyball Wilson as in Castaway. There is also a healthy blend of McGyver (an old television series on a character who seems to be able to create things out of odds and ends).
I have to admit that the book started very slow for me. It eventually picked up about a quarter of the way through and really took off during the last half (no pun intended). I also have to admit that the whole story line reads like it was written to be adapted for a screenplay (which did happen). That said, it was still a good book.
I recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in reading about variations on the Robinson Crusoe theme, especially when it takes place on our neighboring planet.
